MEET THE TEAM: Petteri, The Gentleman of Liveaboards Shares Hot Tips for the Upcoming Season

To many Raya Divers guests, Petteri is a familiar face from our liveaboards — a calm, experienced professional known for his deep-sea stories and quiet wisdom. This summer, he’s back in Finland for a well-deserved break after an intensive season, but his thoughts are already drifting towards the underwater adventures of the next season.

We caught up with Petteri at Peuramaa Golf Club just before he headed out for another round.

"I’m doing well! It’s been great to enjoy Finland’s long summer evenings and a slower pace after a busy season. I’ve spent a lot of time on the golf course and I’m joining our traditional golf marathon again — a great mix of sport, fun, and good company. I've also been doing some DIY at the summer cottage and just soaking in the uniqueness of Finnish summer."

What’s your favorite dive site, Petteri?
"Honestly, any day in the water is a good day! If I had to pick one... well, I won’t name a single site. As the saying goes — more is more. The entire Andaman Sea is a spectacular playground for divers of all levels. Even beginners will find the conditions ideal and the variety of sites impressive."

The Similan Islands remain a personal favorite for Petteri, with top-notch visibility and diversity. But Koh Bon, Richelieu Rock, and the Surin Islands are also gaining well-deserved attention from divers.

"If you want to see it all in one trip, I recommend the 7-day / 6-night liveaboard safari from Khao Lak — you’ll get to dive several highlights, and the trip fits nicely into a two-week holiday."

"For those with more flexibility in their travel plans, our longer safaris combine the best of both North and South Andaman: Similan, Koh Bon, Richelieu Rock, Phi Phi, Koh Haa, Hin Daeng, Hin Muang, Koh Lipe… All the crown jewels in one unforgettable journey!", Petteri says with enthusiasm.

Petteri will return to guiding later this autumn, but until then, you might spot him at golf courses across southern Finland, the Raya Divers "Get Together event" in early July, or at
a Liveboard info night at Sea Safety Scandinavia this fall.
